Behave Girl and for God’s Sakes No Yoga Pants! – Finding Humor in the Ridiculous

The following is an edited excerpt from the Bad Girls Do It Better celebratory seminar held on February 17 with Shasta Townsend at Balanced Life Yoga in Ontario, Canada and broadcast world-wide via Live Stream through internationally renown health and wellness site: Vivid Life.    Watch this historic event…

Though women have faced misogyny, patriarchy and terror for millennium, we are now in a new world age where these things will have no home – soon.

The old world of separation, manipulation and terror is dying though the last gasp of this old world is still being heard. There is work to do to ensure the new world takes firm roots.

The time to find our own wholeness, true power and even our compassion is needed.

It requires that we heal the old wounds that we have acquired from our families, our society and on our own journey.

It requires that we stand together in an accepting and loving place.

It requires that we choose to participate and purchase media, movies and books that portray women as powerful, beautiful, alive beings and not shades of sexual objects to be victimized and beaten down.

It requires that we take inspired action and not react from rage and pain.

It requires that we find the comical in what is ridiculous.

Speaking of the ridiculous…

Do you know there is a Montana Lawmaker who tabled a bill last week that would make wearing Yoga pants illegal?

He stated that he found Yoga pants indecent and that people should be arrested for wearing “provocative” clothing.

At one level I find this quite comical and had a notion to send him hundreds of pictures of my ass in Yoga pants to show him just what he is missing.

At another level this clearly speaks to the ongoing and yet subtle shame and blame that is still leveled at women – our bodies, our beauty and our sexuality.

What is republican Representative David Moore so afraid of?

What is the message he is really sending to women? And to men?

The message is that we are inappropriate, indecent and our sexuality, beauty and body are the cause of much of the bad behavior and the break down of conservative society today.

The message to women is cover up, shut up and be small. Don’t you dare be attractive, beautiful or sexual. We can’t handle it!

The message to men is “control your woman” lest she drive another man wild. Interesting that the message is NOT “control yourself.”

And I say, “No thank you.” I am tired of being small, polite, appropriate and “decent” so that you can feel comfortable Mr. Moore. I am tired of feeling afraid of men and what they are thinking or may or may not do. I am tired of feeling disconnected from my body and all the self-loathing that creates cancer. I am of external messages dictating my self worth.

I will decide what is meaningful, and what I want to wear!

Why don’t we instead deal with what it is that is making us uncomfortable?

Why don’t we heal our disconnection from the body, from each other and from sexuality it self.

That’s my plan.

That’s what we are doing when we gather together in empowered action.

That is what we are doing when we do not allow shame and blame to rule our lives or our minds.

That is what we are doing when we do not allow the small, insidious comments to leave a mark on our sense of self or create judgment about how a woman should dress, act or behave.

That is what we are doing when we laugh at the ludicrous while we stand in our value as women – and men, regardless of what we are wearing.

Now, I have some photos to take…

Bad Girls Do It Better was a celebratory seminar, conversation starter and gathering of women around the world ready to claim their birthright of pleasure, joy, and power. It was hosted by Shasta Townsend on February 17, 2015 to a live audience and broadcast via live stream as a live party and informative workshop AND participants had the chance to ask their own questions confidentially about the things women rarely, if ever, get a chance to talk about! The evening included a lively examination of the damaging, outdated, and darn-right comical beliefs about women’s bodies, behavior and sexuality – and what we can do with them!
